Purbeck Stone Inspiration

06 February 2017 | Post By: Kelly Hunter | Farrow and Ball

Take inspiration from our colour of the week, Farrow & Ball's No. 275, Purbeck Stone.

Purbeck Stone Farrow & Ball

Purbeck Stone which resembles the colour of the stone in the Isle of Purbeck, is the strongest of our Easy Neutrals with which it is the perfect counterbalance. Less cool and softer than Manor House Gray, it is the perfect tone for well lit modern rooms but can also be used as a darker accent for Skimming Stone instead of Elephant's Breath which some find too warm.

Parma Gray Inspiration

30 January 2017 | Post By: Kelly Hunter | Farrow and Ball

Take inspiration from our colour of the week, Farrow & Ball's No. 27, Parma Gray.

Farrow & Ball parma gray

Parma Gray, despite its name, reads as a cool blue and has been used in numerous costume dramas, contrasted with Wimborne White to create the perfect period feel. Its cool nature can make it feel quite formal, especially when contrasted with a bright white but it is still a firm favourite for those who prefer cleaner crisper rooms.

Mole's Breath Inspiration

17 January 2017 | Post By: Kelly Hunter | Farrow and Ball

Take inspiration from our Farrow & Ball colour of the week, No. 276, Mole's Breath.

Mole's Breath Farrow & Ball

Mole's Breath is the most versatile of the Farrow & Ball stronger accents, as it can be used both with the Easy Greys like Purbeck Stone, and the Contemporary Neutrals like Elephant's Breath. It is particularly effective to ground kitchen islands. When used on walls, especially in small rooms, it creates a fabulously moody but soft room so is a great alternative to the colder bluer Down Pipe.

TIP: pair Mole's Breath with Wevet and Strong White, for a softer feel. If you're looking for a scheme that's a little darker & bolder, pair Mole's Breath with Purbeck Stone and Railings.

Calamine Inspiration

10 January 2017 | Post By: Kelly Hunter | Farrow and Ball

Take inspiration from our Farrow & Ball colour of the week, No. 230, Calamine.

calamine farrow and ball

Calamine is indeed named after the lotion we all used as children to sooth nettle stings and rashes! Its seemingly almost blue undertone prevents it from being too sugary and pink. In smaller rooms it becomes intense and demanding but in larger well lit rooms it feels much more delicate.

calamine farrow and ball

Calamine would make the perfect colour for a little one's bedroom, or on wooden furniture, contrased against an All White background.

Why not opt to do something a little different, and adorn your bathroom in Calamine, combined with a pink throw and towels, for a rustic, farmhouse charm look.Using Calamine for your front door would also make a perfect, delicate and feminine finish.

TIP: For a bold look, pair Calamine with Brinjal and London Clay. If you want to opt for something a little more neutral, why not pair with Nancy's Blushes and Wevet.

Elephant's Breath Inspiration

03 January 2017 | Post By: Kelly Hunter | Farrow and Ball

Take inspiration from our colour of the week, Farrow & Ball's No. 229 - Elephant's Breath.

Elephant's Breath

Elephant's Breath with its hint of magenta will read as a warm contemporary grey but can become almost lilac in west facing rooms. To make it less lilac it is best not used with All White, but with the softer Strong White. For fashionable interiors, offset it with Charleston Gray and London Clay as slightly more intense accents.

Elephant's Breath

Elephant's Breath

TIP: pair Elephant's Breath with Mahogany & Pelt for a bold, but warm look. For something a little softer, pair with Skimming Stone & Dove Tale.

Lastly, we love Elephant's Breath for use on upcycled furniture - ideal for adding a soft, neutral touch to the room.

Lulworth Blue Inspiration

23 December 2016 | Post By: Kelly Hunter | Farrow and Ball

Take inspiration from our colour of the week, Farrow & Ball's No. 89, Lulworth Blue.

lulworth blue

Lulworth Blue has an unsurpassed freshness, typical of a formal mid-tone Regency blue and so happily sits alongside similarly clean Arsenic or Citron. However, despite its brightness it can promote deep and peaceful sleep when used in low lit rooms, especially when used on both walls and woodwork, making it perfect for a nursery, or little one's bedroom.

Why not opt for Lulworth Blue on your bedroom's woodwork for a subtle touch.

TIP: pair Lulworth Blue with Hague Blue and Off-Black for a deep, bold look. If you want to keep the palette a little softer, opt for Parma Gray and Skylight.

Yeabridge Inspiration

13 December 2016 | Post By: Kelly Hunter | Farrow and Ball

Take inspiration from our colour of the week, No. 287 Yeabridge Green.

Yeabridge Green Farrow and Ball

This colour was found in an 18th century Georgian Hamstone farmhouse in Yeabridge, Somerset, when the original gun cupboard was removed. Although untouched for many years, it was still astonishingly reminiscent of the lush grass that surrounds the house. This uncomplicated, fresh ‘avocado’ green works in contemporary settings as well as period properties.

TIP: pair Yeabridge Green with Off-White and Cooking Apple Green for a neutral look. To create a bolder look, pair with Hague Blue and Incarnadine.

Yeabridge Green Farrow and Ball

We love how Yeabridge Green makes a front door really pop with colour, especially when contrasted against a white, or other neutral.

Incarnadine Inspiration

06 December 2016 | Post By: Kelly Hunter | Farrow and Ball

Take inspiration from our Christmassy colour of the week, Farrow & Ball's No. 248, Incarnadine.

incarnadine Farrow and Ball

Incarnadine is the richest of crimsons, similar to that used by David Hicks at Barons Court in the 1970’s and is unashamedly red and glamorous. It can be used to sumptuous effect in halls when offset with Tanners Brown on woodwork, or feel more edgy and graphic when paired with a bright white.

incarnadine Farrow and Ball

TIP: Incarnadine looks great when paired with Pitch Black and Drawing Room Blue for a traditional, bold look. To keep things a little more neutral, pair Incarnadine with Pavilion Gray and Borrowed Light.
