Bring the outdoors in with the nature’s great colours: purple, teal and grey

purple, cushions, floral

Purple: spiritual, soul searching, mysterious, enchanting

Teal: positive, serene, sophisticated, cool, tasteful, confident

Grey: sleek, modern, classy, stylish

This week we bring to you a home interior inspired by floral hues. Floral purple with a teal edge is a trending colour combination, currently a top one on Pinterest, so taking inspiration from that and our colour of the week Farrow&Ball’s Vardo we decided to dedicate this blog on how to decorate your home using this timeless combination.

Being full stockists for Farrow&Ball, here at Warings we have the 132 unmatched shades of paint, giving us the opportunity to choose a differend shade every week. This week, we stopped at the timless teal - Vardo No. 288.

farrow&ball. decoration, vardo, teal, teal blue

The teal blue colour looks beautiful when painted on woodwork as well as as a statement wall in any room. Why not update a cabinet, table or chair with a touch of paint, and contrast it with a neutral background? What's more, this colour works extremely well with darker shades like reds and greys.

Purple textiles and teal walls sounds great, but it can be hard to decorate when combining two vibrant colours. We have selected some of the most pinned images on Pintrest  ons and most pinned images on Pinterest to inspire you:

Pop of colour

Thursday, 27 July 2017 13:12:36 Europe/London

Minimalistic interior design with a 1950s inspired twist

Inspiration, colour pop, home interior, home design, living room, orange

When it comes to home interior design, people tend to choose natural or neutral-inspired colours for their homes, in order to achieve a sense of harmony and comfort. But adding a pop of colour to your home interior can be an interesting twist and a way to create a customized look. In the 1950s, home design trends revolved around the idea of colour pop with the use of primary colours in addition to neutral ones, which would work as an accent to the room, also known as kitsch trend. Inspired by comics, kitsch trend on its own nowadays might be considered excessive. It is in the recent years, that minimalistic-inspired interior began trending, featuring cold Scandinavian-inspired colours, such as grey, white and black. Yet, we believe that to achieve great balance, a combination between the 1950s kitsch trend and Scandinavian vibes can be right for any living space. The colour pop inspired by the 50s can work as a focal point and a bold accent to the otherwise neutral home look. We have gathered some examples on how to do this at your home.

Farrow&Ball

As full stockists of Farrow&Ball, we have noticed that our customers prefer neutral shades for their living spaces, like Old White, Elephant’s Breath and Cabbage White. But in the range of 132 unmatched shades that Farrow&Ball offer, there are some confident and dazzling colours, which can be a great addition to the uniform colours.

Farrow&BallFarrow&Ball’s ‘industrial colours’ feature a warm Babouche yellow and Downpipe grey. Great combination, complementing shades and another dose of colour pop.

Farrow&Ball

Farrow&Ball's range of dazzling bright colours are perfect for updating walls or furniture inspired by the 50s interior design trend.

Take inspiration from the main combinations of neutral and bright colours trending right now.

Black+White & Yellow

uplifting

Black&White + Yellow

Being the colour of the sun, yellow is balancing this otherwise black and grey interior right. If you’re not feeling enough colour confident to paint a wall in bright yellow, accessorising is probably the safest option to try out new trends.

GREY & ORANGE

handsome grey and dazzling orange

grey, orange, farrow&ball, mirror, interior Charlotte's Locks, Farrow&ball, paint, orange

Our personal favourite, this combination is very subtle to the eye, but still exploiting the full potential of the twist that is pop of colour. For even better results, the orange can be even brighter, for a great bold look. Or why not paint your mirror in Farrow & Ball’s great colour, Charlotte’s locks – amazing colour to create a unique vibe.

GREY+RED

classy & chic

This evidently eclectic design is a chic and efficient to re-create the nature of 50s inspired interior trend. Simple as it is, red contrasts any shade of grey (or even any colour), which makes it a go-to option for an easy change.

Streaming from vintage inspired trends, anyone can afford to be bold with some dazzling-colours pieces. Here are some of our favourite items to help you achieve this trend:

Home Office Inspiration

Saturday, 29 October 2016 12:27:00 Europe/London

When setting up your home office, décor should be similar to the rest of your house.

home office inspiration

Whether you’re running a business from home, or your home office is simply a space in the home where you keep the computer, and store files & books, you still want an office space that feels comfortable, as it is still a part of the home. Furniture pieces and accessories for the office that integrate parts of your style and personality, but still provide a space for organization is an important part of the home office balance. Why not pop large lamp on, or next to your desk for ambience and a comfortable chair for working on. The homey, yet creative balance is the perfect setting for comfort, creativity and of course will lead to productivity.

Keep a clean, focused mind with a neutral palette

Paint walls and furniture in neutrals, then add your colour in colour with a blind, wallpaper behind the desk, and cushion on your chair, in pretty, colourful prints and fabrics.

Farrow & Ball Neutral colours

Why not decorate your workspace with a bold wallpaper?

Farrow & Ball Wallpaper

Don't be afraid of introducing a bold, eccentric pattern into a small space behind a desk, as an interesting wallpaper will cleverly distract from a messy desk and can play with the perception of space, making this ideal if you don’t have a large area for your home office. If you’re not so brave, then why not hang a pin board above the desk, and pin on some wallpaper samples?

Farrow & Ball offer a unique selection of exceptional quality wallpapers in a range of colours and prints. Visit our website or give us a call on 01603 766777 to discuss wallpapers.

Add a bold bookshelf

books for home office

For a productive working space, accessible storage is so important, and what better way to add accessible storage that a bold bookshelf. Add character to your bookshelf by filling it with interesting, and visually appealing books to add a sense of décor to the space. Adding interesting accessories, such as our 'Horn Handle' Magnifier, to the home office is ideal for adding a special, quirky touch to the room.

Add an interesting chair to liven up your workspace

The desk is obviously meant as the focal point of the home office, so make it stand out even more by adding a quirky, fun chair in front of it. Our Reims chairs are modern and bold, ideal for keeping the workspace neutral, but adding that interesting, decorative touch. And they'll look right at home on your Pinterest page!

Accessorising your desk

office notebook

Last but not least, the accessories you choose to add to your desk are just as important as the décor to complete the look. Why not add a decorative notebook, egg timer, or quirky ornament to the desk space?

How to add a rug into your home

Thursday, 14 July 2016 14:48:31 Europe/London

A rug doesn’t just have to be a home accessory, but instead, if placed correctly, can create the foundation of a gorgeous space. If you’re serious about using a rug to brighten up, or liven up the home, it can be a good idea to choose your rug first. Rugs can be more limiting when it comes to Designer David Scott says that the room’s "colour scheme, furniture placement and accessories should all connect back" to your chosen rug, bringing the room to life.

rug

If you have children, or house pets, this certainly has to be taken into consideration when deciding on colours and fabrics, as they can bring quick wear and tear to a rug. If you have children and pets, opt for a woollen rug, which can be cleaned easily, or something patterned, that would definitely help to hide those signs of wear. Designer David Scott suggests that "the number one rule of decorating with area rugs is to purchase the rug with your lifestyle in mind”.

rugs

Patterned rugs available here

rug

The size of the rug is down to personal preference, and furniture layout. If the rug is in the living room, perhaps place the front two legs of your sofa, or armchair on the rug. And don’t completely cover the floor – make sure you leave some showing. The rug should be large enough to bring together and support the space, yet small enough for flooring to come through, and allow circulation around the rug area.

animal hide

Don’t be afraid to use a bold colour, print or pattern when choosing your rug, as they can be the accessory that adds a jolt of colour, or a touch of personality to the room. A bold colour or pattern used in an otherwise neutral room will be sure to add a focal point within the room, so don’t be afraid to add something a little unexpected. The zebra print cow hide is certain to draw attention, so can be used to bring the room all together. It is also a nice and simple way to add colour to the room, when you don’t want to commit the boldness to the walls or an item of furniture.

cow hide

Animal hides and skins are the perfect option for showing a little personality, and being daring in the home with their unique colours and prints. Just be careful to check the suitability for use as rugs on the floor. For example, reindeer hides are prone to shed when walked over, or in the heat (think underfloor heating), but cow hides and sheep skins are perfectly suitable! We just love the individual and unique prints on each of the cow hides.

How to integrate Antique Furniture into your home

Friday, 24 June 2016 11:50:00 Europe/London

Forget the clean, all-matching look – decorating a room with different furniture styles, colours and pattern is modern & fresh; however, it can also be hard to pull off. Mixing the old with the new might seem a little strange, but just like they say – opposites actually attract!

victorian sideboard

We love the stark contrast between the flame mahogany Victorian sideboard, and the dramatic appearance of the cow hide zebra print, and how they only enhance each other in their contrast.

antique furniture

Antique chair with woven rush seat

If you are nervous about adding a piece of antique furniture into the home, why not start small, with a chair or a small table?

Our top tips for integrating antique furniture into the home:

antique furniture

Edwardian Dining Table

  • Embrace the contrast – our top tip for adding a piece of antique furniture to the home, is that you have to be willing to embrace the various colours, patterns and styles, when put together with existing furniture. But, you will be creating something new, and original by doing so
  • Add further contrasting elements – by adding further contrasting elements to the room, you will be adding interest to the room, and can actually help offset any mismatched styles. So, if you have dark, antique woods mixed with existing country style furniture, add bright & bold colours to make it even more striking.
  • At the same time, limit the colour palette – if you have different types of wood, metals etc. then you want to keep the colour of your décor simple. If you go a step too far, you may take away from the look that you’ve tried to achieve. Stick to one unique wall colour, and a couple of colours for your décor, and you should be good to go.
  • Do not get rid of anything that you already have – people often swap out the old for the new (or in this case, antique), which can be a mistake. The point of adding an antique piece is to embrace, enjoy, and ultimately enhance the furniture pieces that you already have by combining them well.
  • Be ‘eclectic’ – combine different textures, patterns and finishes to create an eye-catching, on trend look, achieved by combining the old and new, bright and dull, and square and round!
