Bring the outdoors in with the nature’s great colours: purple, teal and grey

purple, cushions, floral

Purple: spiritual, soul searching, mysterious, enchanting

Teal: positive, serene, sophisticated, cool, tasteful, confident

Grey: sleek, modern, classy, stylish

This week we bring to you a home interior inspired by floral hues. Floral purple with a teal edge is a trending colour combination, currently a top one on Pinterest, so taking inspiration from that and our colour of the week Farrow&Ball’s Vardo we decided to dedicate this blog on how to decorate your home using this timeless combination.

Being full stockists for Farrow&Ball, here at Warings we have the 132 unmatched shades of paint, giving us the opportunity to choose a differend shade every week. This week, we stopped at the timless teal - Vardo No. 288.

farrow&ball. decoration, vardo, teal, teal blue

The teal blue colour looks beautiful when painted on woodwork as well as as a statement wall in any room. Why not update a cabinet, table or chair with a touch of paint, and contrast it with a neutral background? What's more, this colour works extremely well with darker shades like reds and greys.

Purple textiles and teal walls sounds great, but it can be hard to decorate when combining two vibrant colours. We have selected some of the most pinned images on Pintrest  ons and most pinned images on Pinterest to inspire you:

Light up!

Friday, 11 August 2017 12:00:09 Europe/London

LIGHT UP!

If you’re planning to update your home lighting, you have to make sure that you use the right type of light for the space and the ambience you want to create in the room. The proper use of light, whether it is natural or coming from a source, can wider the living space and equally serve as a great interior statement. Here at Warings we understand the importance of lighting, as we know it can turn a room into a warm and inviting space. Thus, we have come up with some tips and advice on how to choose the right lighting for your home.

lighting - lampshades and lamp stands

While appearing decorative at first glance, considering the striking prints on our lampshades for example, the lighting at Warings Lifestore is first and foremost functional. We have gathered some of our favourite items – from lamps to fairy lights to illustrate our ideas.

Ambient lights

This type of lighting usually provides the space with an overall illumination, without focusing on any specifics. As this is quite common type of lighting we bring you suggestions on how to update this in a stylish and tasteful way – by using the right lampshade.

lighting - lampshades and lamp stands

Task lamps

We further look at floor and table lamps, or as we prefer to call them ‘Task lamps’. These can be adjusted according to your need – if you’re planning to read a book on the sofa for example, use a floor lamp and situate it next to where you’re sitting. Table lamps function very similarly, the only difference is they can be placed on the coffee or side table, and vary in terms of design and shades.

Dimmers are a must

Dimmers add to the oomph of the lighting in a room, and save energy too! Our Orbis lamp with marble effect and a dimmer comes in two colours – white or black, to best fit the interior. Effortlessly chic, the dimming option on this lamp will take it from task light to an intimate glow. The light itself features a warming amber tint.

Don’t ignore the exterior

Use fairy lights in your home – pop them around the walkway, in the garden, even adore bushes with them. These are sure to create an intimate ambience! Another way of using fairy lights, while  being in sync with the current trend, is popping them into a glass terrarium to create a customized and unique display!

Pop of colour

Minimalistic interior design with a 1950s inspired twist

Inspiration, colour pop, home interior, home design, living room, orange

When it comes to home interior design, people tend to choose natural or neutral-inspired colours for their homes, in order to achieve a sense of harmony and comfort. But adding a pop of colour to your home interior can be an interesting twist and a way to create a customized look. In the 1950s, home design trends revolved around the idea of colour pop with the use of primary colours in addition to neutral ones, which would work as an accent to the room, also known as kitsch trend. Inspired by comics, kitsch trend on its own nowadays might be considered excessive. It is in the recent years, that minimalistic-inspired interior began trending, featuring cold Scandinavian-inspired colours, such as grey, white and black. Yet, we believe that to achieve great balance, a combination between the 1950s kitsch trend and Scandinavian vibes can be right for any living space. The colour pop inspired by the 50s can work as a focal point and a bold accent to the otherwise neutral home look. We have gathered some examples on how to do this at your home.

Farrow&Ball

As full stockists of Farrow&Ball, we have noticed that our customers prefer neutral shades for their living spaces, like Old White, Elephant’s Breath and Cabbage White. But in the range of 132 unmatched shades that Farrow&Ball offer, there are some confident and dazzling colours, which can be a great addition to the uniform colours.

Farrow&BallFarrow&Ball’s ‘industrial colours’ feature a warm Babouche yellow and Downpipe grey. Great combination, complementing shades and another dose of colour pop.

Farrow&Ball

Farrow&Ball's range of dazzling bright colours are perfect for updating walls or furniture inspired by the 50s interior design trend.

Take inspiration from the main combinations of neutral and bright colours trending right now.

Black+White & Yellow

uplifting

Black&White + Yellow

Being the colour of the sun, yellow is balancing this otherwise black and grey interior right. If you’re not feeling enough colour confident to paint a wall in bright yellow, accessorising is probably the safest option to try out new trends.

GREY & ORANGE

handsome grey and dazzling orange

grey, orange, farrow&ball, mirror, interior Charlotte's Locks, Farrow&ball, paint, orange

Our personal favourite, this combination is very subtle to the eye, but still exploiting the full potential of the twist that is pop of colour. For even better results, the orange can be even brighter, for a great bold look. Or why not paint your mirror in Farrow & Ball’s great colour, Charlotte’s locks – amazing colour to create a unique vibe.

GREY+RED

classy & chic

This evidently eclectic design is a chic and efficient to re-create the nature of 50s inspired interior trend. Simple as it is, red contrasts any shade of grey (or even any colour), which makes it a go-to option for an easy change.

Streaming from vintage inspired trends, anyone can afford to be bold with some dazzling-colours pieces. Here are some of our favourite items to help you achieve this trend:

Styling the season – July

Thursday, 13 July 2017 17:53:36 Europe/London

Summer is in full swing and we decided to dedicate this week’s blog post on bringing you some fresh and innovative ideas for home design and decoration, inspired by the season. We’ve gathered some interior design tips and a few of our favourite items to help you transform your living space.

chair green

Using home accessories to update your living space is a smart way to bring some light into your home. Try using different materials and styles to create an individualised look.

Our simple and stylish fern tea candle holders are a must-have home accessory.

These aqua-inspired throws and cushions can add a further touch of colour to your sofa or bed. Or maybe pop them on your favourite armchair for maximising its comfort.

Contrasting furniture and décor is a simple but effective way of creating the desired ambiance, as the added item would pop out due to eye-catching colours. A great example of this is the dazzling bright colours on this lamp, which contrast the dark shade of the furniture.

To bring your home decoration a step further to a nature-inspired look, add lots of plants. Plant decoration sure makes a living space more comfortable and breathable.

And while we’re on the subject of plant decoration, terrariums are having a major moment in home style and decoration. They are miniature gardens created under glass and there are ways in which you can plant your own terrarium.

. Here are some guidelines on how to do this:

Terrarium Guide

If you’re feeling colour-confident, why don’t you try updating your living room walls or kitchen cabinets with the fabulous colour range from Farrow&Ball. Some of the colours are bold and bright for an extra-summer vibe.

Here are some suggestions:

Summer bedroom refreshed with Farrow and Ball Paint. This shade is Cromarty no.285, not too blue or grey, it is the perfect shade for a July bedroom, bringing a soft touch.

We love a twist on walls painting, like this one here.

TIP: Arsenic No. 214 looks great when paired up with Farrow&Ball’s Old White, hence the contrast in colours….

There is something almost defiant about using the botanic Studio Green on living room walls. This colour, reflecting nature, is ideal for modern rooms creating calm and serene feeling.

8 Home Accessories you need this Winter

Friday, 4 November 2016 12:32:32 Europe/London

With the recent drop in temperature, and the dark evenings, winter is certainly almost upon us. So there's no better time to add a winter's touch to your home, and embrace the new season. So we've put together a list of our top 8 accessories we think you need to add to your home this winter.

Reindeer Hides

We don't think there's anything more wintery than a reindeer hide placed over the back of an armchair, popped on the end of the bed, or even hung from the wall.

reindeer hide

Sheepskin Rug

If a Reindeer Hide isn't for you, then a Sheepskin can be an ideal alternative for adding a decorative touch to your home. In comparison to the reindeer, a sheepskin can be placed on the floor and walked over like a normal rug, so if you're after a rug for sitting on in front of the fire, then this is for your. Alternatively, they can be placed around the home for decorative purpose - we love the pine cone and skeepskin combination!

Hot water bottles

If you're planning on spending your weekends throughout the winter wrapped up on the sofa, or retire to the sofa after a cold & crisp walk, a hot water bottle is perfect for snuggling up to.

Stag Cushion Selection

Our range of stag cushions certainly feel wintery, and Christmassy. Add one to an armchair, of the living room sofa for a lovely winter's touch.

Log Basket

With winter, comes fires. So whether you have an open fire, or a log burner, why not store your logs in a aesthic log basket for a special touch in the living room.

Wellington Boot Rack

When winter arrives, we certainly look forward to those crisp walks, but with them can home a lot of mud on our boots. A wellington boot rack is perfect for the utility room, or popped next to the front door to stop all of that mud trailing through the house.

Throws & Blanket

Keeping warm and cosy throughout the winter is certainly near the top of our agenda. An added throw/blanket over the back of the sofa, or the bottom of the bed is an ideal way of adding a cosy touch to the home.

Ambient lighting

When we think of winter, we think of Christmas, so what better way to add a wintery touch to the home, than some ambient lighting in the form of fairy lights. Pop them in a dome, or a vase and place in the living room for a special winter's evening atmosphere, and some added style. We love our Trille lights for this job.

Home Office Inspiration

Saturday, 29 October 2016 12:27:00 Europe/London

When setting up your home office, décor should be similar to the rest of your house.

home office inspiration

Whether you’re running a business from home, or your home office is simply a space in the home where you keep the computer, and store files & books, you still want an office space that feels comfortable, as it is still a part of the home. Furniture pieces and accessories for the office that integrate parts of your style and personality, but still provide a space for organization is an important part of the home office balance. Why not pop large lamp on, or next to your desk for ambience and a comfortable chair for working on. The homey, yet creative balance is the perfect setting for comfort, creativity and of course will lead to productivity.

Keep a clean, focused mind with a neutral palette

 home office neutral palette

Paint walls and furniture in neutrals, then add your colour in colour with a blind, wallpaper behind the desk, and cushion on your chair, in pretty, colourful prints and fabrics.

Farrow & Ball Neutral colours

Why not decorate your workspace with a bold wallpaper?

Farrow & Ball Wallpaper

Don't be afraid of introducing a bold, eccentric pattern into a small space behind a desk, as an interesting wallpaper will cleverly distract from a messy desk and can play with the perception of space, making this ideal if you don’t have a large area for your home office. If you’re not so brave, then why not hang a pin board above the desk, and pin on some wallpaper samples?

Farrow & Ball offer a unique selection of exceptional quality wallpapers in a range of colours and prints. Visit our website or give us a call on 01603 766777 to discuss wallpapers.

Add a bold bookshelf

books for home office

For a productive working space, accessible storage is so important, and what better way to add accessible storage that a bold bookshelf. Add character to your bookshelf by filling it with interesting, and visually appealing books to add a sense of décor to the space. Adding interesting accessories, such as our 'Horn Handle' Magnifier, to the home office is ideal for adding a special, quirky touch to the room.

Add an interesting chair to liven up your workspace

The desk is obviously meant as the focal point of the home office, so make it stand out even more by adding a quirky, fun chair in front of it. Our Reims chairs are modern and bold, ideal for keeping the workspace neutral, but adding that interesting, decorative touch. And they'll look right at home on your Pinterest page!

Accessorising your desk

Last but not least, the accessories you choose to add to your desk are just as important as the décor to complete the look. Why not add a decorative notebook, egg timer, or quirky ornament to the desk space?
