Eating Room Red No. 43 Inspiration

The deep blackened pigmentation of Farrow&Ball’s Eating Room Red gives a rich burgundy finish with a wonderfully aged feel. This lovely shade takes its name from the colouring of the red damasks so popular in dining rooms in the mid-19th century and reads almost like a saturated purple if you compare it to the more modern looking Incarnadine.

TIP: For best results, pair with Red & Warm Tones Primer & Undercoat.

29 November 2017 | Post By: Warings At Home | Farrow and Ball

This week's colour of the week is a strong blue grey - Pigeon No. 25 by Farrow&Ball. A contemporary shade, particularly suited for use in darker spaces such as studies and panelled rooms, it is also incredibly popular on front doors, for a modern country style entrance to the home.

As the evenings draw in and the temperature starts to fall, our thoughts turn to creating an irresistibly warm and inviting home. Richly painted or papered walls can be used to set the scene, lifting the spirits with bright shades or soothing the soul with muted hues.

A warm welcome starts at the front door. You can try and create an inviting entrance for yourself and your guests this winter by brushing on a colour that you love on the front door. This season we’re all about moody shades such the deliciously dark Down Pipe.

Farrow & Ball's Railings and French Gray continue to be popular 'front door' colours, and paired with a Christmas Wreath, they certainly look perfect throughout the festive season.

When considering a colour scheme for your interior, bold colours such as Inchyra Blue or Studio green are a wonderful way to transform each room into a relaxed and almost hushed retreat.

Go creative with sheen

24 October 2017 | Post By: Warings At Home | Farrow and Ball

Unwritten rules about the way many of us decorate our homes dictate that trims should be painted in high gloss with ceilings in bright matt white, for example. But the truth is that you can be as creative with sheen as you are with colour and use it to your advantage. For instance, the chalky matt nature of Estate Emulsion would allow you to disguise uneven walls, while the new Modern Eggshell would allow you to highlight your favourite pieces of furniture. To explain the advantages of unusual use of sheen, we have put together a simple finishes guide, containing the basics of finishes and where to use them. Then we go on to explain how you can add a twist to your home with a little play with sheen.

Simple finishes guide:

estate emulshion, estate eggshell, full gloss

Estate Emulsion creates the signature chalky matt finish, making it suitable for your interior walls and ceilings throughout the home.  (2% sheen)

Estate Eggshell is a very durable silk finish, especially suited to metal, wood and kitchen cabinets. (20% sheen)

Dead Flat is a traditional, very flat matt finish suited best to interior wood, plaster and metal surfaces. (2% sheen)

modern emulsion & modern eggshell

Modern Emulsion is a high performance interior walls and ceilings paint, and is the perfect alternative to Estate Emulsion due to its slightly higher sheen.  (7% sheen)

Modern Eggshell extremely durable mid sheen finish, especially suited to floors, staircases, kitchen cabinets and interior metal. (40% sheen)

exterior eggshell

Exterior Eggshell similar to Estate Eggshell, it is a very durable silk finish, but  suited best to exterior wood and metal. (20% sheen)

Full Gloss is the most durable high gloss finish, especially suited to interior and exterior wood and metal. (95% sheen)

WHAT TO PAINT

Front Doors are a brilliant place to start experimenting. Try Full Gloss finish with 95% sheen for a striking entrance or opt for a relaxed first expression with the not-so-bold Exterior Eggshell (20% sheen)

Furniture such as the outside of wardrobes or cupboards would look quirky with a flat matt on the outside – Dead Flat has only 5% finish, and Full Gloss within, adding a secret pocket of sheen.

Bathrooms & Kitchens are the place to use the mould resistant Modern Emulsion. Combine this hardy finish with Modern Eggshell on cabinetry and trim for a noticeable shift from matt walls to mid sheen woodwork.

Styling the season – July

13 July 2017 | Post By: Warings At Home | Home style Home Inspiration Farrow and Ball

Summer is in full swing and we decided to dedicate this week’s blog post on bringing you some fresh and innovative ideas for home design and decoration, inspired by the season. We’ve gathered some interior design tips and a few of our favourite items to help you transform your living space.

Using home accessories to update your living space is a smart way to bring some light into your home. Try using different materials and styles to create an individualised look.

Our simple and stylish fern tea candle holders are a must-have home accessory.

These aqua-inspired throws and cushions can add a further touch of colour to your sofa or bed. Or maybe pop them on your favourite armchair for maximising its comfort.

Contrasting furniture and décor is a simple but effective way of creating the desired ambiance, as the added item would pop out due to eye-catching colours. A great example of this is the dazzling bright colours on this lamp, which contrast the dark shade of the furniture.

To bring your home decoration a step further to a nature-inspired look, add lots of plants. Plant decoration sure makes a living space more comfortable and breathable.

And while we’re on the subject of plant decoration, terrariums are having a major moment in home style and decoration. They are miniature gardens created under glass and there are ways in which you can plant your own terrarium.

. Here are some guidelines on how to do this:

If you’re feeling colour-confident, why don’t you try updating your living room walls or kitchen cabinets with the fabulous colour range from Farrow&Ball. Some of the colours are bold and bright for an extra-summer vibe.

Here are some suggestions:

Summer bedroom refreshed with Farrow and Ball Paint. This shade is Cromarty no.285, not too blue or grey, it is the perfect shade for a July bedroom, bringing a soft touch.

We love a twist on walls painting, like this one here.

TIP: Arsenic No. 214 looks great when paired up with Farrow&Ball’s Old White, hence the contrast in colours….

There is something almost defiant about using the botanic Studio Green on living room walls. This colour, reflecting nature, is ideal for modern rooms creating calm and serene feeling.

Farrow&Ball grey inspiration combined with pink

04 July 2017 | Post By: Warings At Home | Farrow and Ball

Interior Idea: Grey combined with pink for a great paired look

pink and grey, farrow&ball

Jumping on the Scandinavian-inspired bedroom trend, we have collected some great examples of grey inspired home decor, combined with a colour-confident pink. In this week's blog, we offer you two of Farrow&Ball's colour paints to accomplish the suggested home looks. The chosen grey is Dimpse No.277, which is purposely cool with blue undertones, ideal for a Scandi-inspired minimalistic bedroom.

dimpse, farrow&ball, grey, blue undertone

To add an edge to the cool looks of Dimpse, use another one of Farrow&Ball's finest paints - Nancy's blushes. This confident pink can update the grey base and work as an accent to the entire room interior.

It is certain that this neutral paired look can also be used in a children's bedroom, creating a relaxed ambiance.

The suggested combination can also be used in a quirky wall decoration way, as it creates a remarkable contarst in between the two selected colours.

If you're not into bright pink walls, you can always accessorizethe grey-dominated room with pink-based homeware, like cushions, throws or blinds.
